Lagos, January 5th - Today, Paga, an innovative financial services platform has unveiled a new way for customers to transfer money to any Nigerian by using a MasterCard, Verve or Interswitch debit card.
Paga is the easiest to use money transfer service in Nigeria, launched in February 2011 and regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria. The company's initial set of products are delivered to meet critical needs of the Nigerian public: ability to transfer money fast and reliably to anyone, pay bills, top-up airtime or pay merchants safely. Paga delivers these services via a nationwide network of agents, the mobile phone, and internet.
With this new innovation, Paga customers can now load cash onto their Paga account in three ways: at one of Paga's nationwide network of agents, at any one of six banks (Diamond Bank, First City Monument Bank, First Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank for Africa, and Zenith Bank), or now via MasterCard, Verve or InterSwitch debit cards.
Speaking on this innovation, Tayo Oviosu, Founder & CEO of Paga said "Our announcement today is a major stepping stone in how Paga further enables a cashless Nigeria. Now anyone who is banked can use their debit card to transfer money to their loved ones or pay for any service they are procuring without leaving their office desk or home. No need to be in person to make the transaction occur, no need to sit in traffic or stand in a bank queue, and certainly no need for physical cash. You simply use your mobile phone or internet enabled device anywhere and anytime."
Mr. Jay Alabraba, Paga Co-founder and Director of Sales & Business Development, added: "We will continue to innovate to ensure that Paga is accessible to all Nigerians. Customers are responding well to our offering to solve their critical need for money transfer â since February, and with very little marketing, we have processed over seventy thousand transactions worth more than five hundred million Naira (₦500 million). Adding debit cards to the funding sources for a money transfer make Paga even more accessible to those who are banked. Best of all, recipients of money transfer do not need to have Bank accounts or Paga accounts and they pick up their money at any of our agents."
Paga is available on all mobile networks and is delivered to customers in collaboration with strong local banks, retailers and various other private and public sector organisations. To learn more about Paga, contact the company at 0700-000-7242.
